Come From Away

Recently, I watched a wonderful musical all about the 9/11 attacks in 2001, and one town in Newfoundland, Canada took in around 6,000 travelers headed to USA in over 30 flights.

Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto
I remember wanting to go see it back in 2018 while I was in school studying health administration. I always wanted to go see however, I let my procrastination get to me, and was scared of going alone. So I missed out.

Until the pandemic came, and all the theatres had shut down.

And in 2021, 'Come From Away' ceased production in Toronto due to low attendance ratings and the financial uncertainty.

However, that musical came back in full force. I guess it was because there was much likeable place for it. People actually related to the empathetic value of it and how it means to Canadians. It's shown all over the world including here in Canada.

If you have not watched it, its worth watching. There was a lot of emotional stories from the travelers who went there and they were worried about their families and homes.

Not knowing where they are. Stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I remember sitting next to a couple (probably on their date, honeymoon, or just wanted to escape) and he told me he was from Newfoundland and wanted to see the show himself. He took his wife with him. We talked endlessly about the play itself and how the conditions living in the city versus the small towns, like Timmins.

The people who were acting did a phenomenal job acting on their parts. I need to shout out to them! Kyle Brown (Rob and others), James Kall (Nick/Doug and Others), Jeff Madden (Kevin T./Garth and others), Ali Momen (Kevin J./Ali and Others) and others.

I also loved Kristen Peace (Bonnie & Others) accent! She was comedy gold, starting off as a intern at her first day as a news journalist and now part of the scene. She was funny

As a historian buff, I loved researching more about what I saw. Maybe its a thing that they said, to an event that made it happen. I loved reading into it.

This was something to research.

The ending was also nice! I remember there was a ukulele player, a DJ booth off to the side (it turned out it was them to play the music) and an accordion player.

I saw that guy during the start of the show, because it reminded me of my elementary school music teacher. Who tragically passed away in his car and committed his life. Looking back at it, he was always committed to his love for music. Someone who worked hard to bring his passion to his students.

Its sad to see how someone who loved passionately about music, left his grace for memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you.

'Come From Away' was an amazing musical number and I learned a lot about what happened to the small town in Newfoundland. It opened my eyes to know how Canadians were passionate at helping travelers who did not know what was going on, help them cope with a new area for a couple of days.
