Toy Story 30th Anniversary - The Cast & Crew
The cast and the crew of the Toy Story movie consists of a lot of people. Thus, how the first movie was casting.
Woody now
Tom Hanks was casted as Woody because the director wanted him to be casted as Woody. Woody exudes this character as someone who is Buzz Lightyear's best friend.
From the facts in terms of the original drafts, Disney wanted to portray him as the 'bad guy'. From the movie 'Tin Toy' (that was released prior to the movie release), they wanted him to be this evil ventriloquist dummy who would abuse toys.
Disney executives and also the actor, Tom Hanks was furious about the original script, so they decided to change the script. Instead of it, Woody is now featured in a 'buddy picture', (a side-by-side main characters) from the movies.
This is Woody's character from the previous script. It was ultimately cancelled because of how the character was portrayed.
You can see the picture (from right) where he was originally pictured. He has a dysfunctional face with the slim body and a flat knees and feet. The color of his skin is very artistic and the color scheme of the character resembles a cowboy.
His 'buddy picture' is Buzz Lightyear. Buzz Lightyear is this super hero action figure who was Woody's Rival that became best friends.
Don Rickles
They came up with the name because of the astronaut, Buzz Aldrin and also a GI Joe. It was based off real Apollo 11 astronauts with the skullcaps, white suits and clear helmets.
Hasbro (the game company who GI Joe - Hence the Buzz Lightyear) has made Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. Played by the famous comedian, the late Don Rickles.
Don Rickles was a famous comedian who had an amazing works such as, 'Kelly's Heroes' - starring Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland, and others - an array of colorful American soldiers - it's a war-time movie. 'C.P.O Sharkey' which is a sitcom where he plays Chief Sharkey to a naval recruitment center.
In 2019, they had used him for archival footage, after his passing in 2017.
Joe Ranft, an animator who had the inspiration of wanting a 'love interest' for Woody, wanted to create something magical. Originally, it was supposed to be a Barbie Doll, however, Mattel owned the rights and as a results ended up being Bo Peep.
Bo Peep is exuding with personality, flirtatious behaviour who is sensitive, lady-like position.

Slinky (the dog) was a Dachshund with a metal-slinky body. According to the Strong National Museum of Play located in Rochester, USA, the inventor made it by accident. In 1943, according to the website, he wanted to create a new spring for the naval ships.

After selling it to Gimbels in 1945, all 400 inventories worth of slinkies had been sold.
That's the reason why they put it there.
