The Christmas Song

Happy Holidays everyone! Let me tell you about my favourite Christmas song....

This is one of the Holiday songs that I love coming every year is called 'The Christmas Song'. This song was written by Robert Wells and Mel Tombe.

Mel Tombe

According to Tombe, he said that he wrote this under a hot summer day, and needed something to cool off.

He said:

"I saw a spiral pad on his (Wells's) piano with four lines written in pencil", Tormé recalled. "They started, 'Chestnuts roasting..., Jack Frost nipping..., Yuletide carols..., Folks dressed up like Eskimos.' Bob didn't think he was writing a song lyric. He said he thought if he could immerse himself in winter he could cool off. Forty minutes later that song was written. I wrote all the music and some of the lyrics."

King Cole Trio
Later successful from the legendary Nat King Cole in 1946.
From the Wikipedia page, in total, there were four recordings of this song.

The first version was with the King Cole Trio. This band consisted of Oscar Moore, Johnny Miller and yes, Nat King Cole.

According to the Wikipedia page, this version was sent by accident to the Billboard Greatest Christmas Hits (1935-1954).

The Second version was produced in New York in 1946. It still included them, but it also included a string choir. An arranger, some string players, and a harpist.

The album
Third Version of this song was recorded in Hollywood, particularly the Capitol Records building. It was the first time that this song had a magnetic tape recording. It included the strings portion.

The final version (the one you hear on the radio) is the completed version. This is the most famous and popular one that's on the Billboard Charts, Instagram stories, and from everywhere you hear. Its included in his album, 'The Magic of Christmas'.

Throughout the years, it has covered through so many artists, including Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello, the Carpenters, Luther Vandross, The Jackson 5, NSYNC, to name a few.

It has even been recognized as one of the songs preserved from the Library of Congress and broke the longest running top ten in 2022 by Billboard Charts.

It just so happens that I covered this song! I shot this at the Distillery District in Toronto, just after closing. I remember being tired from work and wanting to go home, but from watching an Instagram reel about how we always go home after a day.

I did not want to do that. So there I was, in the crestfallen snow, and decided to do a three-minute video to a cover I did back two years ago.

Here it is!

I hope you like it! I can also be found in most streaming services! I'm hoping to do more music very soon!
