Formula 1 (The Movie)
So the movie 'Formula 1' is out with raving reviews; Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, who is a former Formula 1 Driver who returns, Damson Idris (Snowball) who plays Sonny's arch nemesis and teammate and Kerry Condon (several movies; 'Avengers: Age of Ultron', 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Avengers: Endgame) who plays Sonny's technical director and a love interest.
My friend told me its not a good movie to watch; nothing happened, a bit cliché. Reviews on Google has given it 4.5 stars with patrons saying: 'raw intensity', 'awakened a deep, emotional connection', some had said that it lacked 'storytelling and realism' and 'inaccuracies' with one review giving it one star.
I have not watched it at all because I am not that interested in Formula 1, but I appreciate the sport and what it does to fans. And I respect the drivers who run these courses, because its hard to maintain a fast car, and your life at your risk if you do it wrong.
Paolo Gislimberti |
Take for instance former Formula 1 Driver, Paolo Gislimberti (picture. A passionate volunteer firefighter and a youth coach. He died from a 'loose wheel from Heinz-Harald Frentzen's [a former driver from Germany] Jordan [one of the teams he raced on] car on the first lap of the 2000 Italian Grand Prix.
I took a look at this video and at the 7:52 mark on that video, it appears that he drove too close to either cars and smashed a wheel, sending him to spin around. The car was up in the air and it appears that somebody has hurt.

Back to the movie, it also features famous current and former Formula 1 Drivers; Lewis Hamilton, Daniel Ricciardo, Zhou Guanyu and others. According to the Wikipedia page, the scenes were filmed during their tenure in the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

The sound is gritty with the artists lineup, you have Ed Sheeran ('Drive'), Chris Stapleton ('Bad As I Used To Be') and 'fast-pop' music, kind of like when you are driving along the road, think Tate McRae ('Just Keep Watching'), an emotional ballad from Rose from Blackpink ('Messy') and even a collaboration by Don Toliver and Doja Cat ('Lose My Mind').
Lol one of the songs I wish they put was Charli xcx's 'Apple' from her album 'Brat'. The 'I'm gonna drive all night, gonna drive all night'. And the intergenerational trauma. Honestly, it deserves to be on this soundtrack, it sounds right for it.
Overall, will this entice me into watching it?
Sure! If the trend this year is all about Formula 1 and everyone is all the rage for it, like Barbie in 2023. I might buy a ticket and watch it.
