Digital Detox
Digital Detox is a great way to rewire your brain and to focus on what needs to get accomplished. It's also another great goal to set on your resolutions for life.
What I love about digital detoxing is that people put stories out there that you can't control. Scrolling through your phone to no end until happiness comes in short bursts, and your back on that loop again.
These days, a lot of people are trying to 'digital detox' because they decided that enough was enough. It doesn't all mean that social media, or usage of your phone is a bad idea, but sometimes, you can't take it anymore.
I met a server (who was so nice to us) and I asked them to check out this blog. They told me that they were in the middle of doing a digital detox as this person has been on their phones for a long time. What I did was write down my blog address to them and check it out on a later date.
There's a lot of pressure from social media, and it shows. Researchers have saw the existential rise of young people in High School to act a certain way, to influence a product/place, and to purge into buying things you don't need, called 'Impulse Buying'. It's affecting students in any case as the rise of social media presence takes place. It hurts to be pressured every day based on influences one sees and makes.
Back in High School, I even felt some pressure from social media and the overall digital movement that occurred. More and more, I felt more depressed and full of fear on what people see me as, or what trends are popular. I even worry about the pressure of wanting to disconnect. If I disconnected from media, people are going to look at me and I would feel pressured to get back on again.
Or a phone call from a friend, and you need to talk with them constantly.
Sometimes, you want to get off the bandwagon for a bit, but society is not letting you.
I think we as humans love entertaining ourselves and finding short bursts of excitement before we find something new to love. If we look at the real world for a bit, doesn't it feel nice to see what's out there? Breathe in this fresh air, and see nature for what its worth? Looking at butterflies that fly around in the flowers, the breathtaking colors of the florals, and even looking at other people. People watching.
Take some time off your screens for a bit. You never know what might be in front of you. Learn to enjoy the moment, take a wide glance of an artist you see in concert, look at the fine details of an artwork you enjoy, watch the ball hit the home run from your favourite Baseball athlete. These things bring you joy. Make experiences rather than being on an empty short-burst phone.
Get off for a bit. Then come back talking about those experiences and share them with the world.
