A Cheese is the star for which event? And why are they running down a hill to chase it?

Image
A lot of people are wondering... What are these people running, and what are they running after? I will tell you; it is the annual 'Cooper's Hill Cheese-Wheeling and Wake' event, and its hosted every year in the wonderful Coopers Hill in Gloucester, England. Its funny, because people will run down a steep hill just for a wheel of cheese.  The history is kinda bleak on why this festivities happen but sources say it was in a message written by a town crier (someone who reports news by their voice) in 1826. Some had said that it was because of maintaining grazing rights. (granting permission to use land for livestock to feed) I'm guessing with that theory, people would slide down on a hill to "mow" the grass for the cows to eat, if I'm not mistaken. There are theories that stated that its to symbolize the new year based on the Pagan origins as the custom of rolling things, like this event.  'Pagan' means "a person who has no religious beliefs...

First Electric Streetcar in Canada

Image
On May 3rd, I wanted to check out this wonderful (and free!) Museum with a coffee shop nearby, and you would not believe where the first Canadian Electric Streetcar took place in.  Windsor, Ontario. They were focusing on making it, not only keeping it looking like a nostalgic piece of work, they tried to innovate the streetcar.  They placed it on a track, with heavy equipment and careful delicacy to ensure the parts are kept in pace, they can reopen it in for all Windsorites (aka city of Windsor citizens) and the rest of the world to open. Mennonites and the Community of St. Jacobs Market

Image
I was in St. Jacobs over the weekend and saw a vast amount of people who were wearing contemporary clothing and outside where they were auctioning horses. I was wondering who they were because I see them around the market. Some were going about their day, while some were selling fruits and vegetables, baked goods, and home decorations. During the time, my friend and I was looking going around St. Jacobs Market, walking around in the busy Saturday morning, seeing all the wonderful and local vendors throughout the three buildings. I was definitely a sight to see.  I remember hopping on a bus that afternoon, and we were greeted with this wonderful tour guide, Tim; and he was explaining to us who the Mennonite community is, where they go to school and the traditionists on how they are.  I'll give you a brief lesson on who they are and how they got their beginnings, right after the pictures below from the day trip to the market.  St. Jacobs Market Basket of Eggs they are selli...
